At CarillionAmey, we work to make sure our Armed Forces homes and workplaces are the kinds of places people feel safe in and can enjoy - be it during work or at home. That's why we need our own army of highly skilled, committed people to take care of the 49,000 service family homes and 280 key RAF Stations, Army Garrisons, Naval Bases and defence sites across the UK.
On the front line are our 1,400 operatives, people who carry out a huge range of tasks as varied as essential maintenance on RAF hangar doors and runways, boiler replacements and building re-wires in barracks and homes. Included in our team are divers who ensure that the docks housing the UK's defence ships are kept in good order.
Trying to keep on top of an average sized garden can be a challenge in itself, so the task of managing grounds that span the length and breadth of the UK is certainly a big one. Our grounds maintenance teams look after 30,030 hectares of MOD land, 8,400 hectares of forestry and 300,000 trees as well as 43 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) that include wetlands and rivers, moorlands and peat bogs, flower-rich meadows, exposed cliffs and shingle beaches.
Back at base at our helpdesk in Liverpool, a team of 160 people from managers to call handlers, to schedulers to administrators deal with a monthly average of 52,000 calls from families and service personnel.
Given the scale and complexity of what we do, we're always keen to have people in our team who understand our customers and who can add to the diversity of skills and experience in the business.
We employ 74 ex Service personnel such as an ex RAF Air Traffic Controller who is now a Delivery Manager at RAF Lossiemouth and an ex Royal Navy submariner who is now a Technical Manager.
Our people serving families and service personnel means that the Armed Forces can get on with their jobs of keeping the country safe. On this day which celebrates workers and their achievements, we'd like to say thank you to all our people serving our Armed Forces every day.
