CarillionAmey recognises the contributions of our serving Armed Forces as well as the contributions of ex-personnel and those with connections to the Services. We understand the important job our Armed Forces do and as well as supporting them through our work we always look to support them in other ways.
Earlier this year, we signed the Armed Forces Covenant, putting it into practice by recognising the value that ex-service leavers, reservists, veteran and military families bring to our business. We currently have employees who fall into all of these categories and we are keen to learn from them by drawing on their skills, experience of Service life and their military training.
In 2015 we entered into a corporate charity partnership with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, and pledged to raise £250,000 over a five year period. Our staff have already raised more than £75,000 for the charity by a variety of sponsored events from extreme mountaineering challenges to simple raffles. The money we raise is helping to fund SSAFA's mentoring scheme, which aims to motivate, support and empower Service leavers to make a successful transition from the Armed Forces.
With Armed Forces Day taking place on 25th June, our teams are already making plans to hold fundraising events up and down the country. Twenty four CarillionAmey offices are holding a Big Brew Up tea party, baking cakes and serving tea, and our helpdesk team in Speke are planning a week of activities beginning on 20th June.
