Accommodation Officers at your service

We recognise that in the past, not all our AOs have put the needs of our customers first. As part of our improvement plan, we've recruited new trainee AOs to join our 138 strong team of AOs and will be supporting them through a two year training programme. Being an AO is all about having a real interest in where you live, a willingness to help and a pro-active approach to deal with any issues that may arise. During the training, our new AOs will:

  • Take part in real life scenarios of families moving home frequently
  • Shadow long-standing AOs on their homes visits to see how a good AO operates
  • Learn about the move in and move out process
  • Come up with an approach to solving problems

Joe Harper is one of our new trainees and is based at our Donnington site in Telford.

"I've spent the last few weeks visiting families and helping with the process of moving them in and out of the properties. It's really opened my eyes to how families might feel when moving. Often their partners are on deployment so they have to sort everything out themselves, sometimes with their children in tow. I've seen how stressful it can be so I always try my best to make things a little easier, whether that's providing them with information about our services, or just offering a friendly ear".

Joe is at the beginning of his training and we'll be following his progress as he moves towards his goal of becoming a fully trained AO.
